I had a great time at DCC’s men’s retreat this weekend. It was a service retreat which means we worked all day Saturday clearing fallen trees. It was a blast because the people who went on the trip were so great.
Tom Stitt lead 12 of us talking about developing a servant’s heart. Be a great visionary servant was one of the ideas. It makes sense. Jesus said, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” (Mark 9.35). The leader is the servant so the ‘secular’ great visionary leader becomes the ‘Christian’ great visionary servant.
“A vision grows in us when we ask ourselves why God has called us to help others.” (Charles Stanley, Developing a Servant’s Heart, 71)
“A person with a vision for the greater plans and purposes of God is a person who finds meaning and fulfillment in even the most mundane of tasks.” (Stanley 71)
I like the two words together. Visionary Servant.
